Women's soccer falls 4-2 in non-conference match to Taylor

(Upland, IN) – Concordia women's soccer played a road contest on Saturday afternoon at Taylor University. The Cardinals and Trojans both featured identical 3-1 records entering the game with CUAA fresh off an upset of #4 Spring Arbor. Both teams traded goals throughout the match, but Taylor pulled away to claim a 4-2 win.

The Cardinals weathered an early attack from Taylor, withstanding multiple corner kicks and receiving several saves from goalkeeper Anna Roman (FR/Carleton, MI). The Trojans got on the board first with a goal in the 36th minute. Roman would record 6 of her 9 saves in the 1st half alone and Concordia trailed 1-0 at halftime.

Isabel Stropich (FR/Brighton, MI) notched the first shot on goal for the Cardinals in the 2nd half. Concordia tied the game off a goal from Samantha Golchuk (JR/Garden City, MI) in the 68th minute. Golchuk split multiple defenders and fired a shot in the left side of the net to knot the game 1-1.

Taylor responded with a goal less than a minute later to retake the lead, and the Trojans added another marker to go up 3-1 in the 74th minute. The Cardinals continued to battle and pulled within a goal when Olyvia Putnam (SR/Zeeland, MI) scored in the 85th minute with Allison Lentz (SO/Livonia, MI) drawing the assist. However, Taylor was able to add an extra goal on a penalty kick and the Trojans held on for the 4-2 win.

Concordia will have a two-week break and then return home on Sunday, September 22 when they host NCAA Division II Northwood University. The game is set to begin at 1pm.
