Cardinals shutout Wolverines 2-0 in WHAC tilt

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia women's soccer returned home to host UM-Dearborn on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals entered the contest 4-6 overall while the Wolverines came in 1-7. CUAA controlled the pace of play, outshooting UM-Dearborn 24-9 in a 2-0 shutout victory.

Anna Roman (FR/Carleton, MI) started in goal for the Cardinals, making 3 of her 4 saves in the first 7 minutes of the game. Concordia took an early lead when Kiera Savage (FR/Canton, MI) scored in the 16th minute. Savage ran down the right flank and blasted a high shot over the keeper and into the net. UM-Dearborn appeared to score an equalizer late in the half, but the goal was called back due to offsides. The Cardinals continued to keep play in the Wolverines' zone and led 1-0 at halftime.

Concordia weathered an early attack from UM-Dearborn with Anna Roman making another early save. The Cardinals extended their lead when Kendra Lewis (FR/Waterford, MI) found the back of the net in the 64th minute. Lewis kicked a ball from the left side that curled perfectly into the goal. CUAA continued to attack the Wolverines and the team maintained their lead for a 2-0 shutout win.

Concordia improves to 5-6 overall and 2-3 in the WHAC. The Cardinals will remain at home on Wednesday, October 16 when the team hosts Indiana Tech. The game is set to begin at 1pm.
