Women's soccer dominates Cleary 8-1

(Howell, MI) – Concordia women's soccer played a Wednesday night game against Cleary as the team looked to continue moving up the WHAC standings. The Cardinals entered the contest 6-7 overall and 3-4 in the WHAC while the Cougars came in 5-8 overall and 2-5 in conference play. Behind a 4-goal performance from Samantha Golchuk and a hat trick from Kendra Lewis, CUAA cruised to an 8-1 victory.

Anna Roman started in goal for Concordia, making 6 saves in the contest. The Cardinals struck early in the 7th minute when Samantha Golchuk scored with Isabel Stropich drawing the assist. Golchuk struck again less than 10 minutes later with Kendra Lewis picking up the helper.

Concordia continued to keep the ball in Cleary's zone and Samantha Golchuk finished her hat trick in the 36th minute with Kendra Lewis adding her second assist. Lewis went on to score two goals late in the half with Kiera Savage picking up the assist on both goals. CUAA held a commanding 5-0 lead at halftime.

Adrienne Woodruff found the back of the net in the 55th minute to continue the offensive onslaught, scoring on a header off a corner kick by Mackenzie Rahn. Samantha Golchuk added her 4th goal of the game just a few minutes later with Sierra Tischer picking up the helper.

Cleary was able to break the shutout midway through the 2nd half, but Concordia controlled play through the rest of the game. The Cardinals were able to get their bench players key experience with Karissa Lee seeing time at goalie for the last 9 minutes. Kendra Lewis completed her hat trick in the 81st minute off a feed from Samantha Putnam and CUAA earned the 8-1 victory.

Concordia improves to 7-7 overall and 4-4 in WHAC conference play. The team will return to Cardinal Stadium on Friday, October 25 when the Cardinals host rival Siena Heights. The game is set to begin at 4pm as part of a doubleheader with the men's soccer team.
