Upset bid falls short for women's soccer against #3 Racers

(Ann Arbor, MI) – The Cardinals women soccer team returned home for another WHAC conference matchup against the 3rd ranked Racers from University of Northwestern Ohio. Concordia entered today's game with an overall record of 4-5 and 1-2 in conference play. UNOH came into Ann Arbor with a five game winning streak and an impressive record of 10-1 overall and 4-0 in conference. The Racers have also outscored their conference opponents 27-1 throughout their four WHAC games.

The Cardinals struck first with a beautiful goal from Kiera Savage (FR/Canton, MI). The goal was set up from a perfect cross from the right side of the field that bounced one-time to Olyvia Putnam (SR/Zeeland, MI) and allowed her to send a lead pass from 8 yards out for Savage to find the back of the net.

Twenty minutes later, UNOH's Agnes Stefansdottir tied it up for the Racers with a shot that barely sneaked in beneath the crossbar. The Racers kept the offensive pressure after tying the match and were able to find the back of the net again off a rebound that deflected off of the Cardinals goalie Anna Roman (FR/Carleton, MI). Kate Agyemang was the Racer able to give UNOH a one goal lead heading into halftime.

The Cardinals defense had their work cut out for them in throughout this match with UNOH having the best offensive production in the WHAC so far this season. In the 64th minute of play, Kate Agyemang was able to beat two Cardinal defenders and rip a laser shot that found the side netting, giving UNOH a 3-1 lead.

Anna Roman's 12 saves were impressive but not enough for the Cardinals to bring home a victory. Samantha Golchuk (JR/Garden City, MI) was able to put two more tough shots on frame for Concordia's offense but were both saved by UNOH's goalkeeper Lisa Venrath.

The Cardinals will remain at home for their next game to face the Wolverines from the University of Michigan-Dearborn on Saturday, October 12th, at 12pm.
