Women's soccer completes regular season with a 3-2 win over Rochester

(Rochester, MI) – Concordia women's soccer played their last regular season game on Saturday afternoon with a road match against Rochester. The Cardinals came into the tilt 8-8 overall and 5-5 in conference while the Warriors entered winless on the year. Rochester looked to pull off the upset, but CUAA outlasted the Warriors in a 3-2 victory.

Karissa Lee (FR/Taylor, MI) started in goal for Concordia, picking up her first career win. The Cardinals attacked the net early with a corner kick by Abigael Harkins (FR/Canton, MI) and shots on goal from Samantha Putnam (FR/Zeeland East, MI) and Sierra Tischer (FR/West Bloomfield, MI). CUAA got on the board first with a goal by Kendra Lewis (FR/Waterford, MI) in the 28th minute with Samantha Golchuk drawing the assist.

Rochester tied the game in the 33rd minute with a goal, but Samantha Golchuk (JR/Garden City, MI) countered less than a minute later with a goal on an assist from Mackenzie Rahn (SO/Anchor Bay, MI). Concordia headed to the locker room with a 2-1 advantage.

The Cardinals took a 2-goal lead in the 53rd minute when Samantha Golchuk scored her second goal of the game with Isabel Stropich (FR/Brighton, MI) adding her second helper. The Warriors cut the lead in half with a goal just over 5 minutes later, but the Concordia defense held strong through the rest of the game. CUAA did not allow a single shot on goal in the match and the Cardinals came away with the 3-2 win.

Concordia improves to 9-8 overall and 6-5 in the WHAC with the win. The Cardinals received the #7 seed in the WHAC tournament and will travel to #2 Aquinas on Wednesday, November 6. The game is set to begin at 5pm.
