Women's Basketball cruises past Cleary 83-52

(Lansing, MI) – Concordia women's basketball played a road match at Cleary on Saturday night in WHAC play. The Cardinals overcame an early run by the Cougars and secured an 83-52 victory.

McKenzie Maciejewski led all scorers with 29 points, hitting 9 shots from behind the arc, the most in over 20 years in program history. Abby Long came in second with 20 points. Alexx Braddock and Ellery Baker tied for a team-high 7 rebounds.

 

Abby Long opened scoring with a triple. Long drove for an early layup, but Cleary jumped out to a 15-5 lead as they looked for the upset. Concordia stormed back with a 17-0 run, starting with a triple from McKenzie Maciejewski. Abby Long hit a jumper and a 3-pointer and Maciejewski added three more triples to cap the run. Mckenzie Maciejewski's fifth triple of the quarter put CUAA up 25-17 after the 1st.

Abby Long drove for a basket to start the second quarter. Taylor Leatherman hit a short jumper and Ellery Baker scored inside. Jess Andrew drove to the basket and Abby Long nailed a 3-pointer. Mckenzie Maciejewski banked in a shot and Julia Hirt got on the board with a jumper. A late basket from Taylor Leatherman put CUAA ahead 46-29 at halftime.

 

Ellery Baker scored to start the third quarter. Taylor Leatherman made a pair of baskets and Chloe Bisballe hit a jumper. McKenzie Maciejewski continued her standout day with two more triples, pacing CUAA to a 65-43 lead after three quarters.

Maren McCallister knocked down a 3-pointer to start the fourth quarter. Mckenzie Maciejewski nailed two more triples down the stretch and Angelina Haisha hit a shot from behind the arc. Braylynn Haines notched a layup and a jumper and Fran Denardo drained two free throws late in the game. CUAA claimed the 83-52 win as time expired.

 

Concordia will return home this Wednesday to host Madonna at 5:30pm.
