Braddock's Double-Double lifts Women's Basketball to win over Rochester

(Rochester, MI) – Concordia women's basketball traveled to Rochester on Saturday afternoon for a WHAC contest. The Cardinals stayed steadily ahead of the Warriors and survived a late surge to claim a 76-67 win.

Alexx Braddock's second career double-double led all scorers with a career-best 28 points along with 12 rebounds. Julia Hirt finished second with 13 points. Ellery Baker and Jess Andrew were also in double figures with 10 points apiece.

 

Ellery Baker opened the scoring with a layup inside off a feed from Taylor Leatherman. Alexx Braddock scored inside and Baker added two more baskets for an 8-8 tie. Abby Long knocked down a jumper and Julia Hirt drained a triple to extend the lead. Jess Andrew hit a jumpshot and Alexx Braddock continued to dominate inside with two more layups and an "and-1". CUAA led 23-16 after the first quarter.

Jess Andrew drove for a layup early in the second quarter. Taylor Leatherman scored inside and Alexx Braddock finished off another "and-1". Braddock remained strong inside with several more post baskets to push the lead into double digits. Abby Long drained a 3-pointer and CUAA held a 41-31 lead heading to halftime.

 

Ellery Baker scored to open the third quarter. Julia Hirt made a layup off a feed from Abby Long, but Rochester rallied to trim the lead to 48-45 at the 4:05 mark. Jess Andrew converted a pair of layups and both Ellery Baker and Alexx Braddock added baskets. Free throws from Braddock gave CUAA a 58-46 lead after the 3rd.

Alexx Braddock scored inside to open the fourth quarter. Abby Long hit a jumper and Julia Hirt scored a wide-open layup along with an "and-1". After leading 71-57, the Cardinals weathered an 8-0 run by Rochester that pushed the game to two possessions. Abby Long, Taylor Leatherman, and Alexx Braddock made key free throws down the stretch to secure the win.

 

Concordia will return home to host UNOH this Wednesday at 5:30pm.
