Women's Basketball downs Lawrence Tech 59-51

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia women's basketball hosted Lawrence Tech on Saturday afternoon for a WHAC conference tilt. The Cardinals fought through a close first half and ground out a 59-51 win to move to a perfect 6-0 in WHAC play.

Taylor Leatherman led all scorers with 22 points along with a team-best 9 rebounds. Abby Long and Brooke Brauher tied for second with 11 points.

 

Abby Long hit a jumper for Concordia's first basket. Long added free throws and Julia Hirt drove for a layup. Abby Long knocked down a 3-pointer but CUAA trailed 12-9 after the first quarter.

Taylor Leatherman nailed a triple to tie the game in the second quarter. Ellery Baker made free throws and Julia Hirt converted a go-ahead layup for a 17-16 lead. Chloe Bisballe drove to the basket and Taylor Leatherman chipped in five free throws down the stretch. CUAA held a 24-23 lead at halftime.

 

Taylor Leatherman scored to open the third quarter. Brooke Brauher drained free throws and a layup and Leatherman finished off an "and-1". Chloe Bisballe and Abby Long hit jumpers and both Taylor Leatherman and Brooke Brauher paced the offense. CUAA led 44-37 after the third quarter.

Julia Hirt scored a pair of baskets to start the fourth quarter. Taylor Leatherman drove to the hoop and hit a 3-pointer for a double-digit lead. Brooke Brauher made a putback and Abby Long drained a jumpshot to keep the Cardinals in front. Free throws from Taylor Leatherman secured the 59-51 win as time expired.

 

Concordia will head on the road to Lourdes next Saturday at 3pm.
