Last-minute goal edges Rochester past Women's Soccer

(Washington, MI) – Concordia women's soccer headed to Rochester on Saturday night for a WHAC conference tilt. Despite being outshot 40-7 overall, the Cardinals took a 1-0 lead in the first half and nearly played to a draw. However, a Rochester goal with 9 seconds remaining finished the game.

 

Hayley Jacobson played a complete game in net with 15 saves. Andrea Foster and Alexis Russell took early shots on goal as both teams traded offensive opportunities. Hayley Jacobson stayed sharp in net and the Cardinals pulled ahead in the 28th minute when Micayla McGee converted a penalty kick. Taia Vega sent a header just high of the net with 26 seconds remaining and CUAA led 1-0 at the half.

Danielle Bracken took a corner kick and a shot early in the half. Rochester tied the game 1-1 with a goal in the 50th minute. Hayley Jacobson continued to make saves in net as the Cardinals faced a heavy barrage of shots from the Warriors. The game looked to be headed for a tie, but a Rochester goal with 9 seconds left held up as the winner.

 

Concordia will return home to host UNOH this Wednesday at 2pm.
