Men's Bowling competes at the NAIA Invitational; Places third

(Joilet, IL) - The Concordia Cardinals Men's Bowling team was back in action at the NAIA Invitational in Joliet, Illinois over the weekend. The team would finish the tournament in third place following the bracket play, which saw them fall to St. Francis (IL) in the semifinals. Throughout the qualifying round, the Cardinals led the tournament with a total of 9,114 total pins. 

 

The tournament consisted of teams bowling five team games in total, while also going 20 baker games. Those games were followed by bracket play with the top-8 teams advancing. 

 

CARDINALS RESULTS

Jeffrey Lizewski took home the top spot on the team after a fifth-place finish overall at the tournament after scoring 1,038 with a high game of 236. Patrick Good Jr. was next on the list for the Cardinals with a top-20 finish in 17th place after knocking down a total of 970 pins and scoring a high game of 246. Finishing not far behind Good was Conner Rogus, as he finished the tournament in 24th place with a score of 949 and a high game of 223. 

 

Bowling in four of the five games was David Schaberg as he would place 37th with 889 pins. He also collected the third-highest average at the tournament with a 222.25. 

 

Spencer Mosher was next on the list for the Cardinals as he bowled a 497 through two games, he ended with the highest average at the tournament at 248.5 and narrowly missed a 300-game with a 299 high score. Going another two games for the Cardinals, Dylan Jablonski averaged 195 for the tournament with a high game of 200. The final bowler for the Cardinals was Alexander Bumpus as he averaged 168.5 in his two games, scoring a 180 high-game. 

 

BRACKET PLAY RESULTS

After finishing first through the team and baker games, the Cardinals would face Baker University in the first round of the best-of-5 tournament. CUAA swept Baker in three games bowling 204, 214, and 215 respectively. The semifinal round saw St. Francis (IL) beat the Cardinals in four games. 

 

JV CARDINALS RESULTS

The Cardinals JV team finished in fifth place over the JV tournament after knocking down a total of 7,773 total pins.

TEAM AND INDIVIDUAL WINNER

Pikeville University took home the title following bracket play as they upended St. Francis (IL) in five games in the final. 

 

Hayden Tarris from Pikeville took home the individual championship after a total of 1,114 pins and beating the second-place finisher by seven pins. 

 

UP NEXT

The Cardinals will have a few weekends off before they next compete at the third WHAC Jamboree of the season at the Jax 60 in Jackson, Michigan on December 9.
