Volleyball Competes On Day Two Of The Amber Mcclure Fayerweather Memorial Tournament

(Upland, IN) - Concordia volleyball competed in day two of the Amber McClure Fayerweather Memorial Tournament on Saturday afternoon.  The Cardinals faced Olivet Nazarene and Huntington, battling hard but taking two losses. 

 


GAME ONE: Olivet Nazarene 3, CUAA 1 

Claudia Grepke led the team with 13 kills.  Emma Leinberger had a team-high of 19 assists and 15 digs.  Megan Neumann had a team-best 6 blocks.   

 

Set 1 – ONU 25, CUAA 18 

Breann June had the first Cardinal kill of the game.  June continued to pace the offense early on with Joy Pryor adding an ace later in the set.  Claudia Grepke and Megan Neumann combined for a late block, but Olivet Nazarene took set one. 

 

Set 2 – ONU 25, CUAA 21 

Breann June and Megan Neumann made a block for Concordia's first point in set two.  Claudia Grepke hammered four early kills, and the Cardinals led 10-9 after a Megan Neumann block.  Maggie Pritts had an ace midway through the set, but the Tigers pulled away for a 25-21 win.  

 

Set 3 – CUAA 25, ONU 23 

A block by Jacey Powell made the first Cardinal point in set three.  Claudia Grepke and Jessalyn Peavyhouse added early kills.  Breann June and Emiline Wood recorded aces down the stretch.  CUAA took set three to extend the game. 

 

Set 4 – ONU 25, CUAA 13 

Breann June started a 4-0 run with a kill and capped it with an ace.  The Cardinals took an early 6-2 lead before Olivet Nazarene began to pull away.  Megan Neumann made three kills and two blocks down the stretch, but CUAA fell in set four. 

 


GAME TWO:   Huntington 3, CUAA 0 

Jessalyn Peavyhouse led the Cardinals with five kills.  Emma Leinberger and Jillian Kendrick tied for a team-high 9 assistsEmiline Wood secured the back end with 18 digs.  Merin Merkle had a team-best 3 blocks. 

 

Set 1 – HUN 25, CUAA 16 

Breann June and Megan Neumann made a combined block to open the game.  Merin Merkle teamed up with Claudia Grepke and Jessalyn Peavyhouse on blocks for a 10-9 lead.  However, Huntington rallied later in the set to take set one. 

 

Set 2 – HUN 25, CUAA 14 

Claudia Grepke made the first Cardinal kill in set two.  Breann June and Jacey Powell notched kills and Joy Pryor added an ace.  Jessalyn Peavyhouse and Merin Merkle made a combined block, but Huntington took set two. 

 

Set 3 – HUN 25, CUAA 17 

Breann June started set three with a kill.  Jacey Powell recorded three early kills and combined with Emma Leinberger on a block that tied the set 13-13.  However, Huntington pulled away to take set three and clinch the game. 

 

Concordia will return home on Wednesday, September 4th, to host the University of Northwestern Ohio at 7pm.
