Volleyball secures sweep over Rochester Christian

(Ann Arbor, MI) - Concordia volleyball hosted Rochester Christian on Friday night for a WHAC matchup.  The Cardinals staged a big comeback in set one and earned a 3-0 sweep in an exciting game. 

 

Claudia Grepke led the team with 16 kills.  Emma Leinberger had a team high of 18 assists. Breann June led the backend with 14 digs.  Jessalyn Peavyhouse had a team best three blocks.   

 

SET ONE: CUAA 30, RCU 28  

Claudia Grepke notched the first Cardinal kill.  Emiline Wood recorded an ace and Breann June made three kills as the lead switched between the teams.  After trailing 24-16, the Cardinals made a thrilling 8-0 run to extend the set.  CUAA capitalized on Rochester errors to take a 30-28 win in extra points. 

 

SET TWO: CUAA 25, RCU 22  

Megan Neumann made the first Cardinal kill in set two.  The set remained closely contested with Jessalyn Peavyhouse and Jacey Powell combining for an early block.  Claudia Grepke continued to display power as a hitter while Maggie Pritts recorded two aces to close out set two. 

 

SET THREE: CUAA 27, RCU 25  

Claudia Grepke had the first CUAA kill in set three.  Jessalyn Peavyhouse added two early kills and Jillian Kendrick made an ace.  Maggie Pritts recorded another ace and Jessalyn Peavyhouse teamed up with Merin Merkle for a block.  Claudia Grepke recorded four kills down the stretch as CUAA rebounded from a 24-22 deficit to force extra points.  Joy Pryor made an ace to clinch the set and the sweep. 

 

Concordia will remain at home tomorrow, October 26th, to host Lawrence Tech at 5pm.
