Volleyball celebrates Senior Night but falls to Siena Heights

(Ann Arbor, MI) - Concordia volleyball hosted rival Siena Heights on Friday evening as the program celebrated Senior Day.  The Cardinals honored their four senior team members: Breann June, Claudia Grepke, Jessalyn Peavyhouse and Megan Neumann.  CUAA battled hard for their Seniors but fell in straight sets. 

 

Breann June led the team with eight kills.  Emma Leinberger had a team-high 15 assists while tying Emiline Wood with 11 digs.  Merin Merkle had a team-best 4 blocks.   

 

SET ONE: SHU 25, CUAA 15  

Seniors Breann June, Claudia Grepke, and Jessalyn Peavyhouse had the first kills for the Cardinals.  Joy Pryor recorded an ace and Breann June combined with Merin Merkle for a block.  Maggie Pritts recorded back-to-back aces during a late 5-0 run, but Siena Heights took set one. 

 

SET TWO: SHU 26, CUAA 24  

Jessalyn Peavyhouse had the first Cardinal kill in set two.  Jacey Powell and Merin Merkle made a block early in the set.  Claudia Grepke made three kills midway through the set and Jillian Kendrick notched an ace.  The Cardinals pushed the Saints to the limit taking a 24-23 lead late in the set, but Siena Heights rallied to take set two in extra points.  

 

SET THREE: SHU 25, CUAA 13  

Once again Jessalyn Peavyhouse made the first CUAA kill.  Jacey Powell had a strong early kill and Joy Pryor recorded an ace.  Jacey Powell added three more kills down the stretch and Senior Megan Neumann chipped in two late kills.  However, Siena Heights took set three to close the game. 

 

Concordia will remain at home next Wednesday, November 6th, to host (RV) Indiana Tech at 7pm.
