CUAA falls 3-1 on the road in Lima

(Lima, OH) - Concordia volleyball headed south for another WHAC matchup with the Racers of UNOH. They fought hard but eventually fell 3-1.

Breann June had 7 kills, 4 aces, and 20 digs in the matchup. Jillian Kendrick and Emma Leinberger had 18 and 14 assists, respectively. Emiline Wood added 18 digs on the day.

SET ONE: UNOH 25, CUAA 16

Megan Neumann had the first two Cardinal kills of the game to go with a Merin Merkle block. UNOH was able to get out to an early 15-8 lead, which led to Concordia's first timeout.  CUAA came out of the timeout with a kill from Jacey Powell followed by a double block from the tandem of Claudia Grepke and Megan Neumann. UNOH then went on another run to go up 21-10 before eventually taking the set 25-16.

SET TWO: UNOH 25, CUAA 17

UNOH came out on fire in this set, scoring the first five points. The Cardinals failed to score three consecutive points through the entire set, which made it very hard to keep up with UNOH's attack. Jillian Kendrick had a great set to Neumann at the midpoint to bring the Cardinals within two, but another UNOH run led to their eventual 25-17 second set win.

SET THREE: CUAA 25, UNOH 19

The Cardinals started off the third set down 3-0 before a couple of Breann June aces turned the tides and put them up 4-3. Emma Leinberger set up Claudia Grepke for the kill at the midway point of the set to even out the score at 14 after an UNOH surge. It was the kill from Jessalyn Peavyhouse later in the set that gave the Cards the push they needed to start a rally and eventually win 25-19.

SET FOUR: UNOH 25, CUAA 22

The fourth set saw several scoring runs from both the Racers and the Cardinals. The set was not tied until it was knotted at 16 a piece after a huge block from Merin Merkle. It was then a back-and-forth affair for the next 12 serves as the game was once again tied at 22 following a kill from Breann June. Unfortunately the Racers went on to score the final three points and take the match 3-1.

Concordia will be back at home on Saturday, October 12th, at 2pm to welcome Lourdes to the Cardinal Fieldhouse.
