(Grand Rapids, MI) - Concordia volleyball traveled to Cornerstone University on Friday night to continue WHAC play. The Cardinals found themselves up against a strong opponent and fell in straight sets.
Jessalyn Peavyhouse led the team with eight kills. Emma Leinberger had a team high of 10 assists. Breann June led the backend with 12 digs.
SET ONE: CU 25, CUAA 12
Jessalyn Peavyhouse had the first Cardinal kill of the game. Breann June followed up with an ace. Jessalyn Peavyhouse added three more kills in the set, but Cornerstone pulled away to take set one.
SET TWO: CU 25, CUAA 23
Jessalyn Peavyhouse made the first two Cardinal kills and combined with Merin Merkle for a block. Megan Neumann teamed up with Breann June to make a block and added three kills in a row. Breann June and Jillian Kendrick had aces as the Cardinals kept the set close and battled to a 23–23 tie. However, Cornerstone took the last two points to take set two.
SET THREE: CU 25, CUAA 16
Claudia Grepke had the first Cardinal kill as part of a 4-0 opening run capped by a Breann June ace. Cornerstone answered with a 5-0 run, but Jessalyn Peavyhouse tied the set with a kill. Claudia Grepke added a solo block, Joy Pryor made two straight aces, and Breann June notched back-to-back kills for another 5-0 run giving CUAA an 11-10 lead. However, Cornerstone rallied later in the set and took set three to claim the win.
Concordia will travel to #12 Aquinas tomorrow, October 19th, for a 2pm game.
