Women's Basketball downs Lourdes in overtime to advance to WHAC Championship

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia women's basketball continued WHAC tournament play by hosting Lourdes on Saturday afternoon.  The Cardinals came in as the #4 seed while Lourdes entered as the #8 seed.  The game was the teams' third matchup this week and just as in their previous contests, it went right down to the wire.  While Lourdes forced overtime, CUAA pulled ahead in the extra frame to win 91-84.

Katie Snow led the team with a career-high 31 points.  Allyson Hunt finished second with 16 points.  Averi Bebble finished with 14 points and Alize Tripp added 11.  J'may Simmons had a team-high 9 rebounds.

 

 

Samantha Dorn drilled a 3-pointer to open scoring.  Averi Bebble and Taylor Leatherman also knocked down triples as the lead changed hands early on.  Katie Snow made a pair of free throws and Leatherman drove for a layup, but Lourdes led 22-13 after the 1st.

Katie Snow drained two free throws early in the 2nd, but Lourdes pulled ahead by double digits.  J'may Simmons made a layup and Averi Bebble drilled a triple.  Bebble continued to have a solid game with another layup and an old-fashioned three-point play.  Lourdes took their largest lead of the game with a 42-29 advantage, but CUAA closed the half on a 7-2 run to close within 6 points.

 

Allyson Hunt hit a 3-pointer to start the 3rd quarter.  Katie Snow drove for a layup and Averi Bebble knocked down a triple to cut the deficit to 46-44.  Lourdes responded with a 7-0 run, but Stephanie Abraham made an offensive putback and Samantha Dorn added a triple.  CUAA pulled within 1-2 points on multiple occasions, but the team trailed 66-59 after the 3rd.

Katie Snow made a 3-pointer to start the 4th and later added an old-fashioned three-point play.  Free throws from Tris'styn Williams and Alize Tripp tied the game and Snow hit a deep 3-pointer to put the Cardinals ahead 74-71.  Layups from Katie Snow and Allyson Hunt kept the team ahead, but a critical turnover in the last 20 seconds gave Lourdes the chance for a game-tying layup to force overtime.

Allyson Hunt started the extra frame with a pair of free throws and a layup.  Katie Snow drove for two quick baskets and the Cardinals were able to play solid defense.  Alize Tripp and Taylor Leatherman made free throws in the final seconds to secure the 91-84 win.

 

Concordia will now face second seeded Indiana Tech in the WHAC tournament final on Monday, March 1. Tip off will be at 6:00 pm in Fort Wayne.
