(Fort Wayne, IN) – Concordia women's basketball traveled to Indiana Tech for a significant WHAC matchup on Wednesday evening. The Cardinals came in 10-5 overall while the Warriors came in 20-1 and a perfect 8-0 in WHAC play. CUAA hung tough early in the game as they looked to pull off the upset, but Indiana Tech came away with the 69-54 win.
J'may Simmons led the Cardinals with 14 points. Asaria Turman finished second with 8 points. Tris'styn Williams had a team-high 7 rebounds along with 6 points.
A jumper from Averi Bebble and a layup from Tris'styn Williams began a 4-0 CUAA opening run. Indiana Tech responded with 9 unanswered points until a triple from Stephanie Abraham ended the run. J'may Simmons hit a 3-pointer late in the quarter, but CUAA trailed 18-14 after the first.
Tris'styn Williams knocked down a jumper to begin a 6-0 Concordia run with J'may Simmons scoring the go-ahead basket. The Warriors retook the lead, but buckets from Averi Bebble and Asaria Turman kept the game close. Paige Johnson chipped in a layup, but Indiana Tech led 37-28 at halftime.
Tris'styn Williams scored inside to start the third quarter. J'may Simmons made a layup and Asaria Turman scored twice in the post, but Indiana Tech maintained their lead. Alize Tripp drained a 3-pointer with 8 seconds remaining, but CUAA trailed 51-41 after the third.
Taylor Leatherman made a triple for Concordia's first points in the fourth. J'may Simmons made a layup and both Asaria Turman and Alize Tripp drained free throws, but Indiana Tech was able to stay ahead. Despite another late triple from J'may Simmons the Cardinals fell 69-54.
Concordia will play next on Saturday, February 20 against rival Siena Heights at 1pm.
