(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia women's basketball hosted Lawrence Tech on Saturday afternoon in WHAC conference play.  The Cardinals entered 9-4 and 3-1 in the WHAC while the Blue Devils came in 5-7 with a 3-4 WHAC record.  CUAA jumped out to a double-digit lead and survived a late Lawrence Tech run to win 65-57.

 

J'may Simmons' double-double led the Cardinals with 19 points and 11 rebounds.  Alize Tripp finished a close second with 18 points.  Asaria Turman and Averi Bebble were each in double figures with 10 points.

 

Averi Bebble made a layup to open scoring.  Allyson Hunt scored a layup and J'may Simmons hit three jumpers as the teams traded baskets early on.  Alize Tripp and Samantha Dorn also converted layups and Stephanie Abraham drained a 3-pointer.  Concordia led 24-14 after the 1st.

A post basket from Asaria Turman scored the Cardinals' first points in the 2ndAveri Bebble drilled another 3-pointer and J'may Simmons made a turnaround mid-range jumper.  Alize Tripp drained two free throws and Concordia maintained a 35-24 lead going into halftime.

 

Asaria Turman converted an old-fashioned three-point play for Concordia's first 3rd-quarter points.  J'may Simmons and Alize Tripp drilled 3-pointers and the Cardinals took their largest lead of the game with a 51-33 advantage.  CUAA led 51-36 after the 3rd.

Alize Tripp made a jumper to stop a 6-0 Lawrence Tech run in the 4thAveri Bebble chipped in a triple, but the Blue Devils pulled within 3 points trimming the Concordia lead to 57-54 at the 2:22 mark.  Bebble ended the run by splitting the defense for a layup and J'may Simmons knocked down a triple.  Free throws from Alize Tripp and Simmons helped to secure a 65-57 victory.

 

Concordia moves to 10-4 overall and will host Aquinas tomorrow at 1:00pm.
