Women's Basketball claims win over West Virginia Tech 87-77

(Beckley, WV) – Concordia women's basketball played the second game of their weekend road trip with a game against West Virginia Tech.  The Cardinals came in 5-3 overall while the Golden Bears entered 4-4.  CUAA jumped out to a fast start in the 1st and maintained their lead for an 87-77 win.

Tris'styn Williams led Concordia with 24 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 blocks in the game.  Allyson Hunt finished second with 13 points.  Katie Snow came in third with 11 points.

 

Tris'styn Williams scored the first three baskets of the game, sparking an 8-0 opening run for Concordia.  A 3-pointer from Alize Tripp put the Cardinals ahead 11-3 at the 6:29 mark.  CUAA continued to convert inside with Tris'styn Williams and Asaria Turman notching baskets.  Averi Bebble and J'May Simmons drilled late triples and CUAA led 25-10 after the 1st.

Allyson Hunt opened scoring in the 2nd quarter.  A 3-pointer from Taylor Leatherman extended the Cardinals' lead to 32-10.  Concordia continued to maintain their lead with a triple from Allyson Hunt and a solid drive by Katie Snow.  CUAA held a 39-26 lead at halftime.

 

Katie Snow started off the 3rd quarter with an old-fashioned three point play.  Tris'styn Williams continued to dominate the paint and an Allyson Hunt triple capped off a 10-3 run.  Hunt added an old-fashioned three-point play later in the quarter and Taylor Leatherman chipped in an offensive rebound and a putback.  Averi Bebble closed the quarter with a finger roll to give CUAA a 64-48 lead.

Averi Bebble scored the first Concordia basket in the 4th with a quick drive.  J'May Simmons knocked down a corner three and Tris'styn Williams continued to convert inside layups.  The Cardinals were able to gain their bench some playing time with Ashley Lupinski hitting a jumper and free throws from Brinna Melling and Katie Schultz.  CUAA claimed an 87-77 victory as time expired.

 

Concordia improves to 6-3 overall after the road trip.  The team will return to WHAC conference play when they travel to UNOH on Wednesday, January 27.  Tip-off is set for 5:30pm.
