(RV) Women's basketball falls to Aquinas 66-54 in WHAC contest

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia women's basketball played their second game of the weekend with a home game against Aquinas.  The Cardinals entered 10-5 overall while the Saints came in 3-5.  CUAA led early in the game, but Aquinas was able to pull ahead and hand the Cardinals a 66-54 loss.

 

Alize Tripp led the team with 13 points.  Tris'styn Williams finished second with 10 points and a team-high 7 rebounds and 3 blocks.  J'may Simmons was third with 7 points. 

 

Tris'styn Williams made a layup to open scoring.  Averi Bebble drove for a basket and both Alize Tripp and Taylor Leatherman hit early 3-pointers.  Stephanie Abraham converted an old-fashioned three-point play, but Aquinas used a 9-0 run to take the lead.  Alize Tripp cut into the deficit with a successful "and-1" and CUAA trailed 18-16 after the 1st.

 

Asaria Turman ended a 7-0 Aquinas run with a basket in the paint in the 2ndAlize Tripp scored a layup and several free throws in the quarter, but the Saints were able to extend their lead and Concordia trailed 32-24 at halftime.

 

Averi Bebble drilled a 3-pointer to start the 3rd.  Jumpers from J'may Simmons and Taylor Leatherman kept the Cardinals in the game with Simmons adding a triple.  Tris'styn Williams scored a pair of free throws and an inside basket, but Concordia trailed 44-38 heading to the final frame.

 

Asaria Turman made a hook shot inside to open the 4th.  A floater from J'may Simmons and a bankshot from Tris'styn Williams pulled Concordia closer, but Aquinas consistently answered Concordia's baskets.  Despite a late 3-pointer from Taylor Leatherman the Cardinals fell 66-54.

 

Concordia will play on the road at Indiana Tech on Wednesday, February 17 at 6:00pm.
