(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia women's basketball hosted Lawrence Tech in a WHAC quarterfinal matchup on Thursday night. The Cardinals entered as the #4 seed while the Blue Devils checked in as the #5 seed. CUAA controlled play early in the game and was able to maintain their lead for a 77-66 win.
Tris'styn Williams led the team with 15 points. J'may Simmons and Katie Snow scored 13 and 11 points respectively while tying Taylor Leatherman with a team-high 6 rebounds. Alize Tripp was also in double figures with 12 points.
J'may Simmons made an offensive putback to open scoring. Averi Bebble knocked down a triple and Samantha Dorn hit a jumpshot. Tris'styn Williams and J'may Simmons scored inside and Katie Snow drove for a layup to make it a 13-9 lead. Williams added two post baskets and Simmons had a late triple. CUAA led 24-13 after the first period.
Tris'styn Williams scored inside for Concordia's first second quarter basket. Katie Snow continued to make drives to the basket and Alize Tripp had a pair of layups. The Cardinals put together a 16-0 run between the 7:46 and 1:00 mark of the quarter with solid defensive team play. CUAA held a 44-22 advantage at halftime.
Allyson Hunt drained a 3-pointer to start the third quarter. The Cardinals extended their lead with a layup from Taylor Leatherman after multiple offensive rebounds. Alize Tripp knocked down a triple later in the quarter and Averi Bebble drove for a layup. CUAA maintained a 61-36 lead after the third.
Averi Bebble scored for Concordia's first fourth-quarter basket. Katie Snow added two free throws and Alize Tripp nailed another 3-pointer. Lawrence Tech attempted a late comeback with a 14-1 run to pull within single digits in the last minute, but CUAA held on and secured the 77-66 victory.
Concordia will now host #8 seed Lourdes after they upset the #1 seed Rochester tonight. The semi-final game will take place on Saturday, Feb 27th at Noon.
