Softball sweeps Alice Lloyd behind Anderson's pitching performances

(Pippa Passes, KY) - The Concordia Cardinals finished out their four game series at Alice Lloyd with another two wins on Sunday afternoon. The Cards completed the sweep behind a pair of strong pitching performances from Paige Anderson.

GAME 1 - CONCORDIA 4, ALICE LLOYD 3

Paige Anderson started the game for the Cardinals, pitching the first six innings without giving up a run. Kiley Weiderman came in to pitch in the seventh, but was relieved by Anderson who reentered to record the final three outs. Anderson tallied 10 strikeouts while only allowing 4 baserunners through 7 innings of work.

Offensively, the Cardinals got things started when Katie Tobias knocked a two-run homer in the top of the first.

Payton Lewis added to the lead with a RBI single in the second inning, which plated Brooklin Cox. Later in the inning Lauren Martin crossed home before Lewis was caught stealing.

Kiley Weiderman came in to pitch in the bottom of the seventh, but was pulled in favor of Paige Anderson after an error and a walk. The Eagles scored three runs off of an error and a double before Anderson was able to get the final three outs and the win.

GAME 2 - CONCORDIA 8, ALICE LLOYD 5

Kendall Kahl got the start for Concordia, and went 1.1 innings before Paige Anderson entered to pitch the remainder of the game. The Eagles score five runs in the second game, with only two of them being earned.

Alice Lloyd scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first before the Cardinals evened things up in the next half inning. Jada Stephenson hit a single up the middle to score the first, and Summer Brady scored the second on a fielder's choice.

While the Eagles responded with a run to retake the lead in the bottom of the second, the Cards answered back with three of their own in the top of the third. Payton Lewis drove home Katie Tobias on a bunt, before Lewis scored on Jada Stephenson's ground out. Paige Anderson plated Bella Lee with a single to round out the inning.

The Eagles refused to go down quietly, knotting things back up on a pair of errors in the bottom of the third.

The game remained tied until Payton Lewis brought two home with a single to right field in the sixth inning. Sarah Tyrell tacked on an insurance run in the seventh, when her single scored Jada Stephenson.
