Softball wins three games to advance to WHAC Championship on Day Two
 
 

(Sylvania, OH) – Concordia softball played in day 2 of the WHAC Tournament on Thursday.  The Cardinals mounted a 7th-inning comeback to defeat Aquinas 6-5 in game 1.  CUAA then took down UM-Dearborn 4-3 and downed Cornerstone 7-2 to advance to the championship series where they will face Madonna at 1:00 PM on Friday. 

 

Game 1 – CUAA 6, AQ 5 

Paige Anderson pitched a complete game with a strikeout.  Aquinas scored a run in the 1st, but the Cardinals answered in the 2nd with a 2-RBI double from Lauren Martin. 

Aquinas tied the game in the 3rd and went up 4-2 after the 5th.  In the bottom half, Shannon McAlinden laid down a bunt to score Lauren Martin.  In the 6th, Lauren Martin tied the game with a sacrifice fly to bring Jada Stephenson home. 

Aquinas took the lead with a solo home run in the 7th, but the Cardinals responded again in the bottom half.  Jada Stephenson hit an RBI single with the bases loaded to drive in Shannon McAlinden for the tying run.  Bella Lee then hit the game-winning RBI single to score Katie Tobias for the win. 

 

Game 2 – CUAA 4, UMD 3 

Cassidy Kane started game 2, making 2 strikeouts in 4 innings.  UM-Dearborn scored 2 runs in the 1st to go ahead. 

Kendall Kahl pitched starting in the 5th, going 3 innings with 2 strikeouts.  In the bottom half, Katie Tobias hit an RBI single scoring Shannon McAlindenJada Stephenson then used a sacrifice fly to drive in Tobias and tie the game. 

Elyse Brittain hit a go-ahead solo home run in the 6th.  UM-Dearborn tied the game in the 7th, but Dee Campbell converted in the bottom half with a game-winning RBI single to score Katie Tobias. 

 

Game 3 – CUAA 7, CU 2 

Paige Anderson went a complete game with 4 strikeouts.  In the 1st, Katie Tobias hit an RBI single scoring Payton Lewis. 

Cornerstone tied the game in the 2nd, but the Cardinals answered with a 6-run bottom half.  Lauren Martin hit an RBI single and Payton Lewis had an RBI double.  Koryn Playford and Shannon McAlinden laid down RBI bunts, Katie Tobias hit an RBI single, and Dee Campbell capped the inning with a sacrifice bunt. 

Cornerstone plated a run in the 6th but the Cardinals held on to secure the win. 

 

 

Concordia will now face Madonna in the WHAC tournament championship tomorrow at 1:00 PM.
