Softball claims two mercy-rule victories
(Brevard County, FL) – Concordia softball continued their spring break with games against Dallas Christian and Florida National.  The Cardinals finished off both games in 5 innings to pick up 2 more wins. 

 

Game 1 – CUAA 9, DC 0 (5 innings) 

Elyse Brittain started game 1, making 2 strikeouts in 4 innings.  The Cardinals plated 5 runs in the 1st, starting when Payton Lewis stole home on a double-steal with Koryn PlayfordKatie Tobias then hit a 2-RBI double to score Shannon McAlinden and Playford.  Morgan Scott drew a bases-loaded walk and Payton Lewis was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to cap the inning. 

In the 2nd, Madison Poe stole home on a double-steal with Cassidy Kane.  Kane later stole home while Maddy Grueter was stealing second base.  Elyse Brittain hit an RBI single to drive in Grueter for an 8-0 lead. 

Maddy Grueter added an RBI single in the 4th to score Madison PoeKiley Weiderman pitched in the 5th, making a strikeout and securing the mercy-rule win. 

 

Game 2 – CUAA 10, FN 1 (5 innings) 

Paige Anderson pitched a complete game 2, notching 2 strikeouts.  Florida National took a 1-0 lead after the 1st. 

In the 3rd, Katie Tobias hit an RBI single to score Sarah TyrrellShannon McAlinden added a go-ahead sacrifice fly to drive in Payton Lewis. 

The Cardinals used a 6-run 4th to pull ahead, starting with an RBI triple by Jada Stephenson to score Caitlin Traviglia.  Morgan Scott hit an RBI single to drive in Stephenson and Payton Lewis scored on a double-steal with Summer BradyShannon McAlinden hit a 2-RBI double and Madison Poe capped the inning with an RBI single. 

In the 5th, Katie Tobias added a 2-RBI single to give the Cardinals the margin to trigger the mercy-rule win. 

 

Concordia will play IUPUC and Missouri Baptist tomorrow at 9:00am and 11:30am to close out spring break.
