(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia softball "hosted" Lawrence Tech for a doubleheader Thursday afternoon in what would be a home series for the Blue Devils. The Cardinals took two victories on the day with an explosive offense.
Game 1 – CUAA 16, LTU 1
Paige Anderson started on the mound, making 2 strikeouts in 4 innings. The Cardinals plated 5 runs in the 1st, starting with an RBI single from Katie Tobias scoring Shannon McAlinden. Jada Stephenson hit an RBI single and Maddy Grueter crushed a 3-run homer to cap the inning.
LTU scored in the bottom half, but Concordia added 7 more runs in the 2nd. Shannon McAlinden hit an RBI double and Dee Campbell smacked a 3-run homer. Sarah Tyrrell smashed a 2-RBI triple and Lauren Martin hit an RBI single to close out scoring.
In the 3rd, Shannon McAlinden used an RBI groundout to score Koryn Playford and Katie Tobias hit a solo home run. In the 4th, Koryn Playford and Sarah Tyrrell reached home on an error.
Kiley Weiderman pitched in the 5th, making a strikeout and sealing the win.
Game 2 – CUAA 12, LTU 5
Paige Anderson started game 2, making 2 strikeouts in 4.2 innings. Jada Stephenson hit a 2-run homer in the 2nd to open scoring.
In the 4th, Caitlin Traviglia reached home on a throwing error. Lauren Martin used a sacrifice bunt to score Jada Stephenson and Payton Lewis hit an RBI single scoring Sarah Tyrrell. LTU scored a run in the bottom half.
In the 5th, Jada Stephenson used an RBI single to score Katie Tobias and Maddy Grueter hit a bunt single driving in Dee Campbell. Sarah Tyrrell had an RBI single to drive in Stephenson to cap scoring. LTU answered with 2 runs.
In the 6th, Dee Campbell and Jada Stephenson had RBI doubles to add 2 more runs. LTU countered with 2 runs in the bottom half. Kendall Kahl came in to pitch the final 1.2 innings with 1 strikeout.
In the 7th, Payton Lewis and Shannon McAlinden crushed solo home runs. Kendall Kahl pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom half to clinch the victory.
Concordia will travel to Madonna this Saturday at 1pm for a doubleheader.
