Softball splits on Opening Day of WHAC Tournament

(Sylvania, OH) – Concordia softball competed in the first round of the WHAC tournament on Wednesday night. The Cardinals downed UM-Dearborn 3-1 in the first game before falling 3-0 to Cornerstone in the nightcap.

 

Game 1 – CUAA 3, UMD 1

Paige Anderson pitched a complete game with 3 strikeouts. In the 2nd, Payton Lewis hit an RBI single and Jada Stephenson beat out the throw to score.

In the 3rd, Shannon McAlinden crushed a solo home run. In the 6th, Sarah Tyrrell singled scoring Katie Tobias.

UM-Dearborn plated a run in the 7th, but Paige Anderson pitched out of a bases-loaded jam to secure the win.

 

Game 2 – CU 3, CUAA 0

Elyse Brittain started game 2, pitching 3 innings. Cornerstone plated 2 runs in the 1st to go ahead.

Cassidy Kane came in to pitch in the 4th, going 4 innings with 3 strikeouts. The Cardinals threatened in the 5th with Megan Martin and Brooklin Cox at second and third but were unable to score.

In the 7th, Jada Stephenson and Sarah Tyrrell singled to put runners at the corners. However, Cornerstone was able to secure the final out to clinch the win.

 

Concordia will take on Aquinas tomorrow at 12pm in an elimination game.
