(Jackson, MI) - The 2023-24 Cardinals Women's Bowling Team opened their season by hosting the first annual Dirty Bird Classic on Saturday and the Cardinals would start off the season hot with a second-place finish after falling in the final match to Spring Arbor 3-0. 

The event featured three individual games and five baker games, before finishing with the top four teams in match play. 

CARDINALS RESULTS

The top finisher for the Cardinals was Gabriella VanHorn who overall finished in third with a total score of 595. Finishing one pin behind her was Emilee Hughes with 594 pins. The third finisher for the Cardinals was Amanda Fisher who totaled 501 pins. Megan Redmond was the final Cardinal bowler to bowl all three games as she hit 484 pins. 

Ryan Giese, Kyla Peterson, and Brooke Binder all bowled one game for the Cardinals as they hit 169, 137 and 129 pins respectively. 

JV RESULTS

Nine more bowlers competed for the Cardinals and Emily Morris led them all with a top score of 517. Next up was Sydney Stocks who finished in 21st with a score of 511. Bailey Tomlin was the third JV finisher after she hit 487 pins. Carly Pavka was the next finisher as she would total 473 pins. 

The next three Cardinals would finish back-to-back with Arielle Oakley, J'Leigh Saunders, and Bailey VanMeter shooting a 467, 456, and 455 respectively. Mackenzie Morgan shot a 443, while Ashley Kreger shot a 405. 

TEAM AND INDIVIDUAL WINNER

Lawrence Tech's Aubrie Svilar took home the individual title for the event after she shot a 608 over the three individual games. 

The team title would go to Spring Arbor who upended the Cardinals in the final match 3-0. They would also lead the team scores going into the bracket play.

The Cardinals will have a couple of weeks off before they compete at the Midwest Collegiate Championships on October 7 and 8 at the AMF West in Milwaukee, WI.
