WHAC CHAMPIONS: Women's Bowling takes home 3rd WHAC Tournament Championship in Program HIstory

(Lansing, MI) - The Concordia Cardinals Women's Bowling team competed at the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) tournament on Saturday. The Cardinals advanced to the second round of the tournament which featured a four-team bracket.

 

The Cardinals took home the WHAC Tournament Championship and won the tournament for the third time in program history. The championship gives them an automatic bid to the NAIA Championships in March. 

 

 

BAKER PLAY

The Cardinals took home the top spot following the 12 baker games. The Cardinals knocked down 2,256 total pins throughout the 12 games. The Cards took first by a total of 25 pins. 

 

BRACKET PLAY

The Cardinals took on Lawrence Tech in the first round of bracket play. The Cardinals would take the Blue Devils down by a score of 3-1. The second round featured the first of three straight meetings between the Indiana Tech Warriors and the Cardinals. CUAA took down the Warriors 3-0. Following that win Concordia would have a bye before the final round of the tournament. 

 

The Championship match saw Concordia in the winner's side of the bracket while Indiana Tech would be on the other side, as they needed to win back-to-back matches against the Cardinals. IIT took the first match between the two schools. In the final match was a winner-take-all. CUAA swept that match as they would claim the tournament crown. 

 

 

JV RESULTS

With the win the JV team swept the conference season as they took first at all four WHAC Jamborees and the WHAC Championship

 

 

The JV team finished the baker play in first place after hitting 2,052 pins. 

 

The first round of bracket play saw the Cardinals get a bye into the second round. CUAA then faced Rochester picking up a win. After Rochester beat Madonna in the loser's side of the bracket they would pick up a win against Concordia in a match to force a winner-take-all match. CUAA would once again topple the Warriors. 

 

WHAC HONORS

Earlier this week the conference announced the All-Conference honors for Men's Bowling and several Cardinals picked up honors. Freshman Conner Rogus was named the WHAC Newcomer of the Year as well as being named to the All-Conference Second Team. In addition, David Schaberg was also named to the All-Conference Second Team. 

 

In addition to his previous award, Rogus was also named to the Champions of Character Team. The freshman was honored for his commitment to the five core values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership.

 

The WHAC announced their All-Academic teams, which involve being a sophomore in Academic standing and having a cumulative GPA of 3.25. Two Cardinals were named to the team with Jeffrey Lizewski and Patrick Good Jr. being honored.
