NAIA CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW: Women's Bowling set to compete at NAIA National Championships this weekend

(Ann Arbor, MI) - The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Tournament Champions Concordia Cardinals Women's Bowling team will compete at the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) National Championships this weekend. This is the Cardinals' first appearance at the Championships since the event was elevated from Invitational status. 

 

The Cardinals have made two previous NAIA Championship appearances while the event was Invitational status, making it in back-to-back years in 2018 and 2019.

ABOUT THE CARDINALS

The Cardinals earned an automatic bid into the National Championships as they were the winners of the WHAC Tournament back in February.  

 

Eight Cardinals will be on the roster for the tournament with Brooke Binder, Amanda Fisher, Ryan Giese, Emilee Hughes, Emily Morris, Kyla Peterson, Megan Redmond, and Gabriella VanHorn all participating at the event.

NAIA PREVIEW

11 other teams will make their way to Sterling Heights as well with five other conference champions and six at-large teams. 

 

Pikeville (Mid-South Champion), SCAD Savannah (South States Champion), Spring Arbor (Crossroads Champion), William Penn (Heart of America Champion), and William Woods (Unaffiliated Grouping Champion) will represent their respective conferences at the event. 

 

The at-large teams include Indiana Tech, Midway (KY), Milligan (TN), Ottawa (KS), Saint Xavier (IL), and St. Francis (IL). 

 


CHAMPIONSHIP FORMAT

Baker play will open up the Championship on Thursday as each team will bowl six baker sets. After each set is completed, seeds 6-12 will face off in match play in a best-of-seven-game series. Bracket play will consist of a double-elimination tournament. 

 

Friday will feature Rounds 2-6 of match play as teams will battle through the winner's bracket and the second-chance bracket. 

 

Championship Saturday will feature the final game of the second-chance bracket followed by the two remaining teams battling for the title.
