Women's Track and Field opens the Indoor Season at the Oiler Open

(Findlay, OH) - Concordia Women's Track & Field kicked off the indoor season at the Oiler Opener & Multi hosted by the University of Findlay with success. On Thursday, freshmen duo Jayde Ullenbruch (Port Huron, MI) and Jeyda Brown (Belleville, MI) competed in the women's pentathlon, each earning themselves school records and qualifications for the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Championships. Ullenbruch finished the pentathlon with 2,244 points for a 12th-place finish and a new school record in the pentathlon. Brown took 2nd in the long jump with a leap of 4.96m, earning her 2,181 points and a 14th-place finish overall. In addition to earning an NCCAA qualification in the long jump, Brown's jump also secured her a school record. With over 2,000 points each, both women qualify for NCCAAs in the pentathlon.

 

On Friday, women's throws dominated in their respective events. Junior Lena Korte (Clinton, MI) took 3rd in the shot put, launching the shot 14.41m, for a new personal and school record, as well as a qualifying mark for the NCCAAs and an automatic qualifying mark for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Championships. Korte also threw a new personal record and school record in the weight throw with a toss of 15.14m. Fellow junior Quinn Stefanski (Munger, MI) saw personal bests in both of her events, throwing 10.46m in the shot put and 13.32m in the weight throw, also gaining an NCCAA qualification with the weight. Also punching their tickets to NCCAAs were sophomore Morgan Jenkins (Cleveland, OH) and freshman Maya Freeman (Port Huron, MI). Jenkins tossed the weight 12.87m for a personal record. Freeman launched the shot 11.43m in the shot put for her NCCAA qualification and also threw the weight 11.23m. Women's throws also included junior Hailey Stasiukinas (Wyoming, MI) and freshman Brianna Wood (Lansing, MI). Stasiukinas was 6cm off her personal best, throwing 8.80m in the shot put. Wood competed in both the shot put and weight throw, throwing 9.29m and 8.23m respectively.

 

Rounding out the field events, Brown, Ullenbruch, Lily Keuber (Junior; Northville, MI), and Madelyn Ankoviak (Junior; Sanford, MI), competed in the open long jump. The ladies jumped, 4.87m, 4.69m, 3.33m, and 3.24m respectively.

 

Kueber also competed in the 60m hurdles, running 10.36 in the finals, narrowly missing an NCCAA qualification by .01. Also in the hurdles was freshman Olivia Tomlinson (Caro, MI), who crossed the line in a time of 11.0. Tomlinson also competed in the 200m, running 30.72. Sophomore Chloe Evans (New Boston, MI) ran 28.86 in the same event for a personal best time. Evans also competed in the 400m dash in a time of 1:06.38, alongside Grace Ponto (Freshman; Dearborn, MI), Madisyn Flamini (Sophomore; Fowlerville, MI), and Christina Smith (Saginaw, MI). Ponto crossed the line in a time of 1:11.71, Flamini ran for a personal record in a time of 1:16.28, and Smith ran 1:15.44 in the 400m sprint. Smith also ran 32.39s in the 200m dash.

 

The team will go on hiatus for winter break and resume competition on Friday, January 12 at Saginaw Valley State University for the SVSU Classic. Keep up with the Cardinals by following the team on social media - CUAAXCTF.
