Lena Korte takes home WHAC and NCCAA Athlete of the Week

(Ann Arbor, MI) – The Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) and the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) announced their player of the week honors Monday afternoon and Women's Track and Field athlete Lena Korte took home this week's honors.

Korte, a junior from Clinton, Michigan, once again reset the record books for the Shot Put and the Weight Throw with throws of 14.41 meters and 15.14 meters respectively. Korte finished the meet with a third-place finish in the Shot Put while ending up in 12th in the Weight Throw.

Her Shot Put mark has her qualified for the National Association for Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Track & Field Championships in Brookings, South Dakota which will be held on February 29 through March 2. This throw is also the second-best in the NAIA this season.

The marks in the Shot Put and the Weight Throw both qualified her for the NCCAA Championship which will be held on February 9 and 10 in Cedarville, Ohio. Korte's Shot Put throw is the top throw in the NCCAA, while she holds the third-longest Weight Throw this season.

This is the first time that Korte has claimed a Player of the Week award during the Indoor season. She previously took home a WHAC and NCCAA honor last year in the Outdoor season.

The Track and Field teams will wait till the new year to compete again as they will be back in action at the SVSU Open at Saginaw State University on Friday, January 12.
