Women's Track & Field continues to improve at the Doug Hansen Open

(Saginaw, MI) - The Women's track and field team traveled back to Saginaw Valley on Friday, January 19 for the SVSU Doug Hansen Open. The team continued to improve and showed some strengths by earning 2 NCCAA qualifying marks and 9 personal records.

The team had freshman Jayde Ullenbruch (Port Huron, MI) and Maya Freeman earn NCCAA qualification marks. Ullenbruch earned another qualifying mark in High Jump with a height of 1.48 meters. This was also a personal record for Ullenbruch. Freeman earned her qualification in Weight Throw with a distance of 12.77 meters, which was a personal record as well.

Lena Korte (Junior/Clinton, MI) continued to show her dominance in shot put with a distance of 13.98 meters and taking the overall win.

The team had seven more personal records on the day, led by the distance group with four. Michaela Kurth (Freshman; Ypsilanti, MI), Chloe Gunter (Junior; Monroe, MI), Elissa Hines (Freshman; Ypsilanti, MI) and Amanda Fogo (Sophomore; Fowlerville, MI) all earned their personal records in the 800-meter dash. Kurth finished in 2:35, followed by Gunter in 2:39, Hines in 2:46 and Fogo in 2:52.

The three other personal records were recorded by Ullenbruch, Hailey Stasiukinas (Junior; Grand Rapids, MI) and Madisyn Flamini (Sophomore; Fowlerville, MI). Ullenbruch earned her second personal record of the day in the 60-meter dash by finishing in a time of 8.41 seconds. Stasiukinas threw her personal best in shot put with a distance of 8.95 meters. Flamini ran her way to a 400 meter best in a time of 1:14.

The Cardinals also had three athletes make their collegiate debut in an event as well. Madelyn Ankoviak (Junior; Sanford, MI) earned a mark in shot put with a distance of 8.59 meters. Rachael Byers (Freshman; Plymouth, MI) made her debut in the 800-meter dash with an opening time of 2:48. Macee Ripke (Freshman; Napoleon, OH) ran in the 3000-meter run and finished in a time of 12:39.

The team will once again be in action on Saturday, January 27 at Hillsdale College for the Hillsdale Wide Track Classic.
