Women's Track & Field has a strong start to WHAC Championships following Day 1

(Grand Rapids, MI) - The Women's Track and Field team started day one of the WHAC Championships strong, sitting in sixth place with nine points. The Cardinals currently sit seven points behind Madonna and six points ahead of Rochester. The team came away with two school records and five personal records.

The 4 x 800-meter relay team of Chloe Gunter (Junior; Monroe, MI), Rachael Byers (Freshman; Plymouth, MI), Elizabeth Hines (Freshman; Ypsilanti, MI) and Michaela Kurth (Freshman; Ypsilanti, MI) earned a top-five finish with a total time of 10:54. The relay team also gave the team four points towards their overall, while running the fastest they have all season.

Lena Korte (Junior; Clinton, MI) continued to be one of the top throwers in the conference, finishing fourth in weight throw with a distance of 15.28 meters. Korte barely missed out on a personal best but added another five points to the team score.

Jayde Ullenbruch (Freshman; Port Huron, MI) had a record-breaking day as she broke the 60-meter hurdles and long jump school records. She started her day off, by finishing 10th overall in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.57 seconds. Ullenbruch followed that performance up with 10th place again in the long jump, with a jump of 5.07 meters.

Sophomores Amanda Fogo (Fowlerville, MI) and Alison Doerr (Grand Haven, MI) ran in the 5k. Fogo led the way with a 14th-place finish and a 49-second personal record. Doerr also saw massive improvement, as she had a 47-second personal best to finish in 15th place.

Also earning a big personal record on the day was Maya Freeman (Freshman), who threw 13.79 meters in weight throw for 10th overall.

The team will be back in action tomorrow for Day 2 of the WHAC Championships hosted by Aquinas College.
