NCCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS DAY 2 RECAP: Korte leads Women's Track & Field to 9th-place finish at the NCCAA Championships

(Cedarville, OH) - After a solid start to the NCCAA championships in Cedarville, Ohio, the women's track and field team looked to carry their success into day number two. The results would be successful as they came away with a ninth-place overall finish and 29 total points scored.

Lena Korte (Junior; Clinton, MI) claimed her second NCCAA National Championship, first indoors, in the Shot-Put event after throwing a meet and school record with a toss of 14.43 meters. Korte would go on to a fourth-place finish in the weight throw with a toss of 14.97 meters. 

 

 

The Cardinals had multiple others compete in throwing events. In the shot put, Maya Freeman (Freshman) finished in 11th place with a throw of 11.40 meters. Freeman, Morgan Jenkins (Sophomore; Cleveland, MI), and Quinn Stefanski (Junior; Munger, MI)) competed in weight throw. Stefanski led the trio with an 11th-place finish with a throw of 13.77 meters, followed by Jenkins with a throw of 12.81 meters, and Freeman had a throw of 12.74 meters for 18th place. Freeman also competed in the shot put, finishing in 11th place with a throw of 11.40 meters.

Jayde Ullenbruch (Freshman; Port Huron, MI) and Jayda Brown (Freshman; Ann Arbor, MI) competed in the long jump in other field events. Brown was the top Cardinal with a jump of 4.75 meters for 11th place, followed by Ullenbruch in 12th place with a distance of 4.73 meters.

On the track, the women's 4x800 meter relay team of Chloe Gunter (Junior; Monroe, MI), Rachael Byers (Freshman; Plymouth, MI), Elizabeth Hines (Freshman; Ypsilanti, MI), and Michaela Kurth (Freshman; Ypsilanti, MI) earned the team four points with a fifth-place finish, in a total time of 10:59.

The day was completed with the 4x400 relay team of Gunter, Ullenbruch, Brown, and Chloe Evans (Sophomore; New Boston, MI), who finished in 10th place with a total time of 4:40. 

The team will be back in action on Friday, February 16, and Saturday, February 17, for the WHAC Championships hosted by Aquinas College.
