Women's Bowling set to compete at the NAIA Championships

(Ann Arbor, MI) - The Concordia Cardinals Women's Bowling team will compete this upcoming weekend at the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) National Championships. This will be the second straight year the Cardinals have made the National Championship since the event was elevated from Invitational status.

 

This will be the fourth overall appearance with two previous in 2018 and 2019.

ABOUT THE CARDINALS

The Cardinals make their appearance as an at-large bid at this year's Championship. The Cardinals did though take home the regular season Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Championship. 

 

The eight Cardinals that will compete on the team for the Championships will be Amanda Fisher, Arielle Oakley, Bailey Van Meter, Brooke Binder, Emily Morris, Mackenzie Morgan, Ryan Giese, and Sydney Stocks.

NAIA PREVIEW

The 11 other teams that will make their way to Sterling Heights, Michigan will be six conference champions and five other at-large teams. 

 

The Conference Champions teams include Culver-Stockton (Heart of American Athletic Conference), Lawrence Tech (Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference), Moringside (Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference), Spring Arbor (Crossroads League), Pikeville (Mid-South Conference), SCAD Savannah (South States Athletic Conference).

 

The five other at-large teams are Marian, Milligan, Mount Mercy, Saint Xavier, William Penn.

 

CHAMPIONSHIP FORMAT

The first day of the event features all 12 teams competing in six baker sets. Following the baker sets, the 6-12 seeds will face off in match play in a best-of-seven game series. Bracket play will consist of a double-elimination tournament. 

 

Friday will feature Rounds 2-6 of match play as teams will battle through the winner's bracket and the second-chance bracket. 

 

Championship Saturday will feature the final game of the second-chance bracket followed by the two remaining teams battling for the title.
