Women's Lacrosse falls in season opener to #6 Benedictine

(Atchison, KS) – Concordia women's lacrosse opened up their season on the road against the 6th-ranked Benedictine Ravens. The Ravens got off to a quick start, building a double-digit lead over the Cardinals in the first half on the way to a 23-4 win. 

Cassandra Allard led CUAA with 2 goals and 2 shots on goal. Alana Mortimer and Taylor Nesbitt each recorded 2 ground balls to lead the team. 

 

Rachel Costello started in goal, recording 7 saves. Benedictine started quickly, recording 6 straight goals to open the game. Cassandra Allard got on the board with an assist from Greyson Papp for Concordia late in the opening quarter, but the Ravens responded to lead 7-1 at the end of the first 15 minutes.

The Ravens continued to push in the second quarter, scoring 6 straight to carry a 13-1 lead into the halftime break. Benedictine outshout CUAA 26-4 through the first 30 minutes of play. 

 

The third quarter was much like the second for the Ravens, as they outscored Concordia 7-0 in the period and led 20-1 after three. 

Following an early Ravens goal in the fourth quarter, Cassandra Allard picked up her second score of the day with 11:00 to go in the contest. Following another Benedictine goal, Ann Werth picked up her first career collegiate goal with under 4 minutes of play remaining. 

Benedictine struck back with a goal at the 2:08 mark. With 9 seconds remaining in the contest, Taylor Nesbitt scored her first goal of the season to make the final score 23-4. 

 

The Cardinals will be back in action Sunday afternoon, as they take on the Ottawa Braves at 2pm in Ottawa, KS.
