Women's Lacrosse downs Siena Heights as Papp becomes program leader in career goals

 

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia women's lacrosse hosted rival Siena Heights on Wednesday afternoon in a WHAC conference clash.  The Cardinals improved to 2-0 in conference play with a high-scoring 21-18 victory.

Cassandra Allard led the team with 7 goals on the day.  Greyson Papp came in second with 6 goals.  Nicole Bordo had a hat trick in the contest.  Alana Mortimer had a team-high 4 ground balls.  Jennifer Miller led the team with 4 caused turnovers.

 

Nicole Bordo opened scoring in the game at the 11:31 mark.  Cassandra Allard added a free position goal before Siena Heights broke the shutout.  Greyson Papp scored on a free position shot and both Allard and Bordo converted markers.  Nicole Bordo finished her hat trick to give CUAA a 6-1 lead after the first quarter.

Greyson Papp scored just 9 seconds into the second quarter.  Siena Heights began to rally with 4 unanswered goals, but Cassandra Allard ended the run by completing her hat trick with 2 markers.  Jennifer Miller got on the board and Allard added a powerplay marker in the final minute of the half.  CUAA held an 11-7 lead at halftime.

 

Siena Heights scored first in the third quarter but Greyson Papp countered by earning her hat trick.  Madisyn Fox chipped in a goal as well, but the Saints trimmed the lead to 13-11 at the 4:59 mark.  Cassandra Allard added her 6th of the game and Greyson Papp scored 2 more times, becoming the all-time career goal-scoring leader in Cardinal history with 89.  CUAA held a 16-13 lead after the third quarter.

The Cardinals continued to take control of the game as Taylor Nesbitt started a 4-0 run on a free position shot.  Greyson Papp scored after a quick pass from Cassandra Allard to extend the lead.  Madalyn Fields stole the ball from the Siena Heights goalie and passed to Jennifer Miller who scored in an open net.

Siena Heights continued to fight with a 4-0 run to pull within 3 goals again.  Cassandra Allard capped the game with her 7th marker of the contest and CUAA held on to secure the 21-18 win.

 

Concordia will remain at home this Saturday, March 26 when they host Aquinas at 11am.
