Women's Lacrosse falls in high-scoring contest at Madonna

 

(Livonia, MI) – Concordia women's lacrosse traveled to rival Madonna on Wednesday afternoon for a WHAC conference match.  The Cardinals came in 6-7 overall (4-2 WHAC) while the Crusaders entered 6-5 (2-5 WHAC).  Both teams performed well on offense with a combined 30 goals, but CUAA narrowly fell by a final score of 16-14.

Anna Werth, Isabella Komarowski, and Taylor Nesbitt all scored hat tricks in the game.  Komarowski added a team-high 6 ground balls.  Madalyn Fields led the team with 7 draw controls.

 

Peyton Long played the first half in goal, notching 2 saves.  Both teams traded powerplay goals with Anna Werth scoring first for Concordia.  Isabella Komarowski added a goal with an assist from Werth, but Madonna notched 2 goals to lead 3-2 after the first.

Madonna scored twice to start the second quarter until Greyson Papp ended the run with a marker.  Anna Werth tacked on a free position goal as the teams continued to trade goals.  Taylor Nesbitt scored back-to-back tallies to tie the game 6-6, but the Crusaders countered with a 4-0 run.  Nesbitt finished her hat trick on a free position goal and Madisyn Fox converted an FPA in the final minute.  CUAA trailed 10-8 at halftime.

 

Rachel Costello played goalie in the second half, making 3 saves.  Isabella Komarowski scored her second of the game to start the third quarter.  After Madonna countered with a 3-0 run, Greyson Papp found the back of the net and Komarowski completed her hat trick.  Jennifer Miler tacked on a goal in the final seconds and CUAA trailed 14-12 after the third quarter.

Madonna started the fourth quarter with two goals, but the Cardinals continued battling when Anna Werth completed her hat trick with a shorthanded tally.  Madisyn Fox added a free position goal with 1:17 remaining to pull the team within two goals, but the Cardinals fell by a final score of 16-14.

 

Concordia will head on the road this Friday to face Bethel at 4:00pm.
