Women's Lacrosse falls to Saint Ambrose

(Davenport, IA) – Following their double-digit victory on Saturday, the Concordia women's lacrosse team took on the Saint Ambrose Bees Sunday afternoon. The Cardinals fell behind early in the contest and would not be able to catch up, eventually falling 17-7 to the Bees.

 

Greyson Papp, Nicole Bordo, and Isabella Komarowski all scored 2 goals to lead the Cardinal offense. Taylor Nesbitt had a team high 5 shots and 5 ground balls. Adrianna Rugiero caused 2 turnovers. 

 

Peyton Long started in goal, recording 4 saves in a half of play. The Bees got out to a quick lead, striking twice in the first 4:06 of the game. Later in the opening frame, Greyson Papp sliced her way through the Saint Ambrose defense and firing a shot past the SAU goalie to get the Cardinals on the board. The Bees bounced back with a goal just 18 seconds later to make the score 3-1 at the end of the 1st.

 

Saint Ambrose was on the attack early in the second, scoring another pair of goals to double their lead before Isabella Komarowski converted right in front of the Bees net to make the score 5-2. After four more SAU goals, Nicole Bordo scored late in the half on a free position shot to make the score 9-3 heading into the break.

 

Rachel Costello was subbed in at goalie in the 3rd quarter, making 4 saves in her 30 minutes of game time. CUAA got out to a fast start in the second half, as Isabella Komarowski scored her 2nd goal of the game just 27 seconds into the third frame. The Bees would respond with three goals of their own across the quarter to make it 12-4 at the end of the period.

 

Saint Ambrose picked up another pair of goals to extend the lead to double digits, before Greyson Papp converted her second strike of the game with 11:25 to go in the contest. After another Bees goal, Nicole Bordo found Madalyn Fields out in front of the SAU net, and Fields would score for the Cardinals' 6th goal of the contest. Nicole Bordo then registered her 2nd goal of the night 48 seconds later to make it a 15-7 game. Anna Werth picked up the assist on the score.

 

The Bees struck two more times in the 4th and held on for an eventual 17-7 victory.

 

The Cardinals will be back in action Wednesday, when they head to Grand Rapids to take on Calvin. Start time is set for 5pm at Zuidema Field.
