Women's Lacrosse rides huge offensive performance to win over William Penn

(Davenport, IA) – The Concordia Women's Lacrosse team opened up their weekend with a neutral site battle against the William Penn Statesmen. The Cardinals jumped out to an early lead over the Statesmen, then road a dominating second half performance to a 21-10 victory.

 

Nicole Bordo anchored the offensive attack with 4 goals and Cassandra Allard had a game high 3 assists. Greyson Papp led the team with 7 shots. Taylor Nesbitt had a team high 5 ground balls and Jennifer Miller caused 2 turnovers.

 

Rachel Costello started in goal, recording 7 saves in the win. The Cards would get the scoring off to a fast start in the first, picking up a pair of goals from Madalyn Fields, along with strikes from Greyson Papp, Nicole Bordo, and Katelynn Lawson. At the end of the first quarter of play, Concordia led 5-4.

 

The second frame came with an offensive explosion from both sides that resulted in 13 combined goals. The Cardinals outscored the Statesmen 7-6 in the period, getting goals from Cassandra Allard (2), Nicole Bordo (2), Taylor Nesbitt, Jennifer Miller, and Greyson Papp. After all that offense, CUAA held a narrow 12-9 lead through 30 minutes of play.

 

The Cardinals distanced themselves from the William Penn in the second half though, outscoring the Statesmen 5-1 in the third quarter. Papp, Bordo, and Miller would all score again, while Madisyn Fox and Taylor Armstrong would each pick up their first goals of the contest in the third frame, carrying Concordia to a 17-10 lead heading into the final period.

 

The CUAA defense continued to dominate in the last quarter, surrendering no goals in the final 15 minutes of play as the Cardinal offense tacked on 4 more tallies themselves. Taylor Nesbitt picked up a pair of goals herself in the final frame, while Madisyn Fox and Isabella Komarowski each scored to secure a 21-10 victory for Concordia.

  

The Cardinals will be back in action Sunday, March 6th when they take on the (RV) Saint Ambrose Bees. Game time is set for 2pm.
