Women's Lacrosse drops home opener against Lewis

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia women's lacrosse hosted the Lewis Flyers for their 2022 home opener Friday afternoon. The Cardinals battled in a close contest early, but the Flyers ended up pulling away for an eventual 20-5 victory.

Greyson Papp led CUAA with 3 goals and 5 shots on goal. Isabella Komarowski recorded a team best 4 ground balls and Alana Mortimer caused 4 turnovers. 

 

Rachel Costello started in goal, recording 6 saves. Cassandra Allard opened up the scoring just over a minute into the contest to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead. Lewis would answer with a pair of goals late in the opening quarter to make the score 2-1 after the first 15 minutes of play.

The Flyers tacked on another early in the second frame, before Grayson Papp came back with a pair of unassisted goals to tie the contest up at 3. After 4 straight scores by Lewis, Papp would pick up her third goal of the period, completing the hat trick and cutting the deficit down to 7-4. The Flyers tacked on 3 more goals late in the quarter to take a 10-4 lead into the halftime break.

 

The third quarter started similarly to how the second ended for Lewis, as they picked up 6 consecutive goals before Nicole Bordo scored off a pass from Taylor Nesbitt to make the game 16-5 at the end of the third frame. 

The Flyers tacked on 4 more goals, including a pair while on the advantage, and blanked CUAA in the final quarter to complete the contest with a 20-5 victory. 

 

The Cardinals will be back in action next Saturday, as they take on William Penn at 5pm in Davenport, IA.
