Men's Lacrosse overpowers Missouri Valley

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Men's lacrosse took the field Tuesday afternoon in a match against the Missouri Valley Vikings. Concordia would seize the lead early on and win by the final score of 19-4. Andrew Simmons and Hunter McCarty both led the Cardinals in scoring, with both players picking up a hat trick.

 

The Cardinals got off to a quick start in the first quarter, with Spencer Guppy scoring first within the first minute of the contest. Concordia would then add four more goals in the quarter thanks to a quartet of scorers in the last 11 minutes of the quarter. The score at the end of the first quarter would be 5-0 in favor of the Cardinals.

 

The second quarter would bring more of the same for Concordia, as they would double their lead in the first 14 minutes of the quarter. Simmons, who also scored in the first quarter, and McCarty would add two insurance goals during this quarter. The Vikings were able to score a buzzer-beating goal thanks to a desperation pass from Hayden Adkins to Carson Willey. This would be the only goal allowed by starter Sam Bowling, as Concordia entered the locker room with a 10-1 lead at the half.

 

Jagger Sines got the Cardinals off to a hot start in the third quarter with a goal within the first 15 seconds of the quarter. From that point, Concordia would add five more goals including two from McCarty and one more from Simmons. Sam Bowling would complete the third quarter before being relieved in the fourth quarter, allowing just a single goal as the Cards would cruise to a 16-1 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

 

The final quarter would see the most scoring from the Vikings, as Willey would add his second goal of the match and Missouri Valley would add two more goals in the frame. Concordia would also add three goals in the fourth quarter, including two goals from Jack Foster, as the Cardinals would wrap up the victory with a 19-4 score.

 

Sam Bowling, who was lifted after the third quarter, would pick up the win in goal for Concordia and moves to 3-1 on the young season. Jake Lipscomb (0-3) would make 15 saves on 34 shots but would be tabbed with the loss for the Vikings.

 

The Cardinals will take the field again on Saturday at 1:00 PM at Ferry Field as they will take on Missouri Baptist.
