Baseball completes the sweep against the Eagles

(Pippa Passes, KY) - With the first weekend in the books, the Cardinals baseball team finished off their third and fourth games of the season adding on another two wins. Pulling off the sweep the Cardinals are now 4-0 on the season after outsourcing the Alice Lloyd Eagles 47-3 throughout the series.  

 

Game 1: Concordia 7, Alice Lloyd 0

 

Alex Phillips got the starting nod in the game going one inning allowing one hit on one strikeout. 

 

The teams were scoreless throughout the first three innings of the game. Jarrett Batanian singled to open the fourth inning, after an Aaron Brazelton walk, Jordan Sherman doubled to bring in the game's first two runs.

 

The fifth inning saw four more runs come across as Calvin Syrjala hit a triple and reached home on a fielder's choice. Next up, Aaron West hit his own triple to score James (Jimmy) Wressle and that was followed by a Batanian single. A couple of batters later, Joe Jones hit a fly ball to left field, scoring Batanian. The final Cardinal run came from Johnny Shields grounding out, scoring Sherman. 

 

Tallying the win was Timothy Pomaville, as he would go four innings in relief giving up three hits and striking out four. Logan Fleming and Byron Mane each pitched an inning allowing 2 hits and striking out three. 

 

Game 2: Concordia 16, Alice Lloyd 1

 

Getting the starting nod for game 2 was Jacob Henry. Henry would pitch four innings and earn the win on the afternoon. He would allow six hits, one earned run and strike out five in the process. 

 

The first two innings saw the Cardinals threaten, but not be able to get anything across the plate. The third saw Robert Brenay steal home and Wressel singling home Jones. With Ryan Kotecki running for Wressel, West would double and then Brazelton would bring him home with a single. The last run of the inning came from Brenay as he singled home Brazelton. 

 

The fourth saw Wressel hitting a triple, with Kotecki running for him, he would come home on a Curtis Townsend single. In the fifth inning Caleb Chamberlain hit his first home run of the season, also bringing home Justin Kozlowski

 

Getting the bases loaded in the sixth, Logan Ramsey brought home two of them. Caleb Harmond would score on the next play being a wild pitch. With the bases loaded again, Jake Moyer got hit by a pitch and then Blake Weaver would single home 2 Cardinal runs. Michial Schuster next singled in the final run of the game. 

 

Following Henry on the mound was Riley O'Connell, Ryan Kotecki and Joe Jones. They each pitched an inning in the game allowing one hit and strike out four throughout the game. 

 

The Cardinals will take the field next Friday when they travel to Ohio Christian next Friday for two games with the first starting at 1 PM.
