Baseball splits in weekend finale with Olivet Nazarene

(Joliet, IL) – Concordia baseball completed their weekend series at Olivet Nazarene on Saturday.  Once again, the teams would split a pair of games to finish the series 2-2.

 

Game 1 – CUAA 8, ONU 2

Tyson Kleinfelter started on the mound in game 1, notching 3 strikeouts in 5 innings.  Concordia struck first in the 1st inning when Joe Jones scored on a fielder's choice situation.

The Cardinals added 4 runs in the 2nd, starting with a 2-RBI single from Aaron Brazelton that scored Jordan Sherman and Aaron WestJoe Jones drew a bases-loaded walk that drove in Kwamae Byers and Calvin Syrjala was hit by a pitch to score Jarrett Batanian.

CUAA added 3 more runs in the 3rdJarrett Batanian hit a 2-RBI bases-loaded single to drive in Aaron Brazelton and Jordan Sherman.  Jimmy Wressel added an RBI single to score Kwamae Byers.

Ryan Abenth and Logan Fleming combined to pitch the rest of the game after the 5th inning.  Olivet Nazarene broke the shutout with a 2-run homer in the 6th, but Fleming induced 3 groundouts in the 7th to close out the game.

 

Game 2 – ONU 3, CUAA 0

Jacob Henry pitched 5.1 innings in game 2, making 5 strikeouts.  The game remained scoreless until Olivet Nazarene plated a run in the 4th.

Concordia threatened in the 5th when Aaron West doubled but was thrown out at third base.  Aaron Brazelton hit a triple but the team was unable to drive him in.

Olivet Nazarene added 2 more runs in the 6th inning and closed out the 3-0 win.

 

Concordia will return to action with their spring break trip to Florida starting on March 10.
