Baseball splits at Indiana Tech

(Fort Wayne, IN) – Concordia baseball traveled to Indiana Tech on Tuesday afternoon for a WHAC doubleheader.  The Cardinals earned a 6-5 win in the 7-inning game before falling 5-3 in the 9-inning nightcap.

 

Game 1 – CUAA 6, IIT 5

Tyson Kleinfelter started on the mound, making 3 strikeouts in 5 innings.  The first three innings remained scoreless with the Cardinal defense turning double plays in the 1st and 2nd. The double play in the first came thanks to Aaron Brazelton making a grab at the fence and doubling up the runner. 

Concordia scored first in the 4th when Ryan Kotecki was able to slide home on a wild pitch.  However, Indiana Tech stormed back with a 5-run 5th inning.

The Cardinals reclaimed the lead with 5 runs in the 6thCalvin Syrjala started the scoring with a solo home run.  Joe Jones tacked on a bases-loaded RBI single to drive in Aaron BrazeltonAaron West drew a walk to score Jarrett Batanian and a wild pitch brought home Johnny Shields.  A passed ball by the catcher sent Joe Jones home for the go-ahead run.

Logan Fleming came on to pitch in the 6th inning, making 2 strikeouts.  Kenneth Rozmys claimed the last out in the 7th inning with a strikeout to secure the 6-5 victory.

 

Game 2 – IIT 5, CUAA 3

Mackenzie Martin started game 2 at pitcher, making 3 strikeouts in 3 innings.  The first scoring came in the 3rd inning when Justin Kozlowski hit an RBI single that drove in Johnny Shields.  Indiana Tech countered with 3 runs in the bottom half of the inning.

Timothy Pomaville pitched the remainder of the game starting in the 4th, notching 3 strikeouts.  The Cardinals pulled within a run when Johnny Shields hit a sacrifice fly that allowed Aaron Brazelton to make it home.

Indiana Tech extended their lead in the 8th with a 2-run homer.  Concordia earned a run back in the 9th when Calvin Syrjala doubled and later reached home on a throwing error.  While the Cardinals plated 2 base runners after the run, Indiana Tech closed out the game for a 5-3 win.

 

Concordia will play next at home when they host rival Siena Heights for a doubleheader this Saturday at 1pm.
