Five Cardinals named to NCCAA Regional Team; Johnston named Regional Coach of the Year

(Ann Arbor, MI) - The National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Division 1 Midwest Region released their yearly honors for baseball and six members of the Cardinal Baseball Team were honored in the region. 

 

Honored on the First Team were Timothy Pomaville, Aaron West, and James (Jimmy) Wressel. The Second Team featured Jarrett Batanian and Jordan Sherman. Head Coach Zach Johnston was also named the Midwest Regional Coach of the Year. 

 

 

Timothy Pomaville, a junior from Warren, Michigan, was tied for second in the NCCAA in wins with an 8-0 record and 15th with a 3.71 ERA throughout his 60.2 innings. Pomaville additionally led the NCCAA with zero losses. Pomaville was second on the team with a .270 batting average against. 

 

Aaron West, a freshman from Grand Ledge, Michigan, was a top hitter on the team for the Cardinals in his first season in the red and black. West was tied for 32nd in the NCCAA with seven home runs.

 

James (Jimmy) Wressel, a junior from Paw Paw, Michigan, was the top hitter on the team for the Cardinals as he hit for .392 on the season. Wressel was 15th in the NCCAA in hits on the season. Wrestle is a repeat member of the NCCAA Midwest Regional Team.  

 

Jarrett Batanian, a junior from Sylvania, Ohio, got into his streak late in the season hitting four of his home runs in his final 11 games, to give him eight on the season. His 40 RBIs were 32nd best in the NCCAA. 

 

Jordan Sherman, a junior from Homer, Michigan, broke out this season with a slash line of .323/.368/.543. He added seven home runs on the season which was tied for 32nd best in the NCCAA.

 

Zach Johnston heads the team into the World Series as the Number-two seed in the NCCAA with a record of 36-20 overall this season. Johnston is in his eighth season as head coach and has compiled a record of 257-159. He has now been named Regional Coach of the Year in back to back seasons. 

 

 

The Cardinals will be taking the field this upcoming weekend at the NCCAA World Series as they will play their first game on Saturday at 1 pm, against the winner of the game played between Kansas Christian and Asbury on Friday.
