Baseball drops pair of games in high-scoring series at UNOH

 

(Lima, OH) – Concordia baseball went on the road to UNOH on Monday afternoon for a WHAC doubleheader.  In the 7-inning contest, UNOH pulled away late for a 10-3 win.  In a high-scoring 9-inning game, the Cardinals nearly mounted a furious rally but fell 16-15.

 

Game 1 – UNOH 10, CUAA 3

Tyson Kleinfelter started game 1 on the mound, pitching 4 innings.  Concordia struck first when Aaron West hit an RBI single that drove in Jordan Sherman.  UNOH countered with 2 runs in the bottom of the inning.

Aaron West tied the game with a solo home run in the 3rd.  However, the Racers scored 4 runs in the 4th to take a 6-2 lead.

In the 5th inning, a sacrifice fly from Calvin Syrjala scored Jordan Sherman.  The Racers countered with 3 runs in the bottom of the inning and another run in the 6th.  Concordia was unable to come back in the 7th and fell 10-3.

 

Game 2 – UNOH 16, CUAA 15

UNOH jumped out to an 8-0 lead after a strong 1st inning.  The Cardinals fought back with a 5-run 2nd, starting when John Markiewicz drew a bases-loaded walk.  Aaron Brazelton tacked on a 2-RBI single that scored Markiewicz and Justin Kozlowski.  A fielder's choice allowed Jarrett Batanian to reach home and Jordan Sherman used an RBI single to score Joe Jones.

UNOH eventually built a 14-5 lead after the 5th inning.  Concordia began to mount a rally again with a 5-run 6thJoe Jones was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force John Markiewicz home.  A walk from Jordan Sherman then brought Jarrett Batanian to home plate.  Aaron West hit a 2-RBI double that that scored Joe Jones and Aaron Brazelton.  Jimmy Wressel closed the inning with a sacrifice fly to drive in Jordan Sherman.

UNOH added a run in the 7th, but the Cardinals pulled closer in the 8th when Jimmy Wressel used a 2-RBI double scoring Jordan Sherman and Robert Brenay.  UNOH added a solo home run in the bottom half to take a 16-12 lead.

The Cardinals mounted one last comeback effort in the 9th inning when Kyle Hebner crushed a 3-run homer to pull the team within a run.  However, the Racers closed out the game with the final two outs.

 

Concordia will return home this Saturday, April 9 to host Cornerstone for a doubleheader starting at 1pm.
