Baseball eliminated on Day 1 of WHAC Tournament

(Lima, OH) – Concordia baseball traveled to UNOH on Thursday morning, competing on day 1 of the WHAC Tournament. The Cardinals entered as the #6 seed and faced off against #5 Indiana Tech in game 1, narrowly falling 2-1. CUAA then went into a must-win game against #1 UNOH, keeping the contest close but falling 4-2.

 

Game 1 - #5 IT 2, #6 CUAA 1

Tyson Kleinfelter pitched a complete game in the first contest, notching 8 strikeouts. Indiana Tech struck first with a run in the bottom of the 3rd.

The Cardinals tied the game in the top of the 6th when Jordan Sherman hit a solo home run. However, the Warriors went back ahead with a run in the bottom of the inning.

While Tyson Kleinfelter continued to keep Indiana Tech at bay, the Cardinals struggled to get baserunners and fell 2-1.

 

Game 2 - #1 UNOH 4, #6 CUAA 2

Joe Tany started game 2 on the mound, pitching 4 innings and allowing just 3 hits. UNOH scored first in the bottom of the 2nd.

The Cardinals found themselves in a defensive battle once again, turning a double play in the 5th. Justin Kozlowski tied the game in the 6th with an RBI single up the middle that scored Ryan Kotecki. UNOH countered with 2 runs in the bottom.

Both teams traded runs in the 8th with Jimmy Wressel using a sacrifice fly to score Johnny Shields. While the Cardinals looked to rally in the 9th with a Robert Brenay single, UNOH secured the final out to clinch the win.

 

Concordia will now wait to see if they will secure a bid to the NCCAA National Tournament.
