Baseball picks up pair of wins in Georgia

(Emerson, GA) – Concordia baseball continued their spring break trip with contests against Trinity Baptist and Fort Lauderdale.  The Cardinals used a big 7th inning in both games to claim 10-4 and 4-3 wins on the day.

 

Game 1 – CUAA 10, TBC 4

Alex Phillips started on the mound in game 1, pitching 3 innings.  Trinity Baptist struck first but the Cardinals tied the game in the 2nd when Robert Brenay hit an RBI ground-rule double scoring Ryan Kotecki.

Concordia took the lead in the 3rd on a 2-RBI single from James "Jimmy" Wressel that drove in Aaron Brazelton and Johnny Shields.  Trinity Baptist tied the game with 2 runs in the bottom of the inning.

Jordan Sherman reached home on a wild pitch in the 4thRiley O'Connell came in to pitch for the remainder of the game in the 4th, earning the win with 2 strikeouts.  Calvin Syrjala tacked on a sacrifice fly to score Aaron West in the 5th.

Trinity Baptist scored a run in the 6th but the Cardinals secured the game with a 5-run 7th inning using the long ball.  Aaron West started out with a solo home run followed later by a 3-run homer from Jordan ShermanJarrett Batanian closed out scoring with a solo home run of his own and CUAA secured the 10-4 victory.

 

Game 2 – CUAA 4, FL 3

Ryan Abenth started at pitcher in game 2, going 4.1 innings with 3 strikeouts.  Justin Kozlowski opened scoring in the bottom of the 1st with a sacrifice fly to drive in Aaron Brazelton.

Neither team scored until the 5th inning when Fort Lauderdale took the lead with 3 runs.  The Cardinals got a run back in the 6th when Jarrett Batanian hit an RBI double to score Jake Ryan.

Joe Jones tied the game in the bottom of the 7th when he reached home on an error.  James "Jimmy" Wressel would play the hero with a walk-off RBI single, driving home Justin Kozlowski to clinch the 4-3 win.

 

Concordia will play both teams again tomorrow as they remain in Georgia.
