Baseball splits doubleheader at Lourdes

(Toledo, OH) - Concordia baseball traveled to Lourdes on Sunday afternoon for a WHAC doubleheader. The Cardinals brought home an 11-6 win in game one but fell 7-6 in game two.

 

GAME 1 – CUAA 11, Lourdes 6 (7 innings)

Logan Morris started game one on the mound with one strikeout. Lourdes took a 2-0 lead after the first inning.

Evan Jasiak pitched starting in the second inning, going 2 innings with one strikeout. The Cardinals cut their deficit in half when Harrison Ryan used a sacrifice bunt to score Tyler Wressel. Drew Fleming hit a solo home run in the top of the 3rd to tie the game.

Lourdes scored three runs in the bottom of the 3rd to reclaim the lead. Bryon Mane came in to pitch for the fourth and fifth innings making one strikeout.

Drew Fleming crushed a two run homer in the top of the fifth to pull the team within a run. Lourdes countered with a run in the bottom of the fifth.

Owen Johnson pitched the sixth and seventh innings with one strikeout. In the top of the 6th, Alex Czyzewski hit an RBI double to drive in Harrison Ryan and later reached home on a wild pitch to tie the game.

The Cardinals scored five runs in the seventh to surge into the lead. With the bases loaded, Alex Czyzewski hit into a fielder's choice to score Tyler Wressel. Aaron West was hit by a pitch forcing Jake Kuhlman home. Josh Burke then hit a 2-RBI single to drive in Tyler Lawson and Alex Czyzewski. Drew Fleming capped the inning with an RBI single scoring Aaron West.

Owen Johnson secured the final out in the seventh inning to pick up the victory for the Cardinals.

 

GAME 2 – Lourdes 7, CUAA 6 (9 innings)

Drew Murphy started game 2 on the mound. Lourdes took a 4-0 lead after the first inning. Kyle Winslow came in to secure the final out and went 5 innings with 7 strikeouts.

In the fourth inning, Harrison Ryan hit an RBI single to score Tyler Wressel. Logan Hylek added an RBI single in the fifth inning scoring Drew Fleming.

The Cardinals rallied to take the lead with 4 runs in the sixth inning. Drew Fleming started things off with a 2-RBI double driving in Josh Burke and Jake Kuhlman. Logan Hylek crushed an RBI double to score Tyler Lawson for the go-ahead run. Tyler Wressel capped the inning with an RBI single driving in Aaron Garner.

Lourdes tied the game with 2 runs in the bottom of the sixth. Kenneth (Dave) Rozmys came in to pitch starting in the seventh inning making 3 strikeouts.

The Cardinals loaded the bases in the eighth inning and threatened with runners at the corners in the ninth inning. However, Lourdes was able to score the game-winning run in the ninth to close out the game.

 

Concordia will conclude their suspended game against Siena Heights Tuesday at 3:30pm. They will then travel to Cleary this Wednesday for a doubleheader starting at 2pm.
